Born 1941 on a small family farm in Southeast Minnesota. 

WesT developed his deep love for photography while stationed in Iceland, while serving in the Air Force.

The Austin family transferred to Houston Texas in 1982.  Amazing photo opportunities opened for West.  Just about every weekend West would be shooting stunning photos all around the Gulf Coast.

His new love for anything shore related.  Commercial fishing, shrimp boats and shorelife have always been among his favorites.

To his credit, in 2019, West published and authored a book dedicated to the shrimping industry, wildlife and landscapes of the Gulf Coast.

 

Many mornings, no matter the weather, West can be found with camera in hand.  Intent on getting that last shot.  Whether at the beach, a sleeping shrimp yard or a back bay hoping to catch a glimpse of an alligator. 

My deep felt gratitude goes to the array of friends from various walks of life, whose diverse styles helped to form an impressive collection of memories. I feel honored to know so many talented people who have helped to co-ordinate an overview of a fascinating way of life!

And last, a special thanks to my wife, Loni Austin and our son Jorgan Austin, for their love, advice and tireless support.

A great big thanks to the dedicated hard working Shrimpers and people in the Commercial Fishing Industry of the Gulf Coast.  Their continued loyalty to a family tradition continues as an important part of our American Heritage.
